Purpose Statement
Public Relations provides a service for the organisation by helping to give the public and the media a better and more complete understanding of the company.
This qualification is intended to develop the skills and knowledge required by a person who wishes to pursue a career in management in a Public Relations Department. The function of such a person is to manage those tasks and activities that would lead to effective service delivery in a Public Relations office, Section or Department.
Entry Requirements
The possession of a National Diploma in Public Relations Management (or equivalent, including articulated qualifications, i.e. qualifications in Communication), in addition to a screening interview, shall serve as the general admission requirement to the Bachelor of Technology: Public Relations Management programme offered by the Department.
Exit Level Outcomes
Holders of a B Tech Public Relations Management will be able to:
1. Manage corporate identity and image.
2. Undertake communications research.
- Manage community relations and corporate investment and responsibility.
- Undertake public relations planning.
- Manage public relations tasks and projects.
- Communicate within the public relations environment.
- Apply integrated communication.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Prior learning shall be recognised, subject to the requirements of each programme and as per WSU’s Recognition of Prior Learning Policy. (RPL)
Duration
Bachelor of Technology: one year full-time, or two years part-time.

Exit Points
A Bachelor of Technology degree will be awarded after having completed the programme with a minimum of 120 credits. A total of 5 instructional offerings are required to complete the degree.
