One of Mzantsi’s most favourite social media sensations, Yamkela Ndabezinhle Nuba, popularly known as King Nuba has obtained his second qualification from Walter Sisulu University.
In 2021, the Umzimkhulu-born artist graduated from the institution’s Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) programme at the Butterworth Campus.
Today, he officially acquired his second belt; a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
“I am extremely happy because this is my first physical graduation, an opportunity which Covid-19 denied me with my previous qualification. From here on, I intend to find a decent position as a professional teacher, and then continue to entertain people on the side,” said Nuba.
After finishing high school, Nuba enrolled at WSU, where he joined the WSU Drama Society, which he says grew his love and passion for the arts.
As a result of his enrollment in ABET and his involvement in the arts society, King Nuba gained self-confidence and overcame stage fright through presentations and practical work.
Since he shot onto the social media scene with his satirical content in 2019, Nuba has gained a large followership, which has culminated in a supporting role in one of SA’s biggest Telenovelas, Imbewu: The Seed.
Following the growth of his online platforms, he was head-hunted for the mini role, and has since been pursuing his acting, comedy, and music careers countrywide.
“Imbewu's producers called and asked me to come to the set. I was both surprised and excited because it increased my popularity and opened new opportunities for me. Many people began to take me seriously and began to follow me," said King Nuba.
Recently, Nuba released a song titled WATHI UMHH, which has amassed over 260K views on YouTube.
On the surface, the song and accompanying music video give off his usual comedic take on life. From the costumes, to the carelessly layered out-of-tune vocals, the song lives up to Nuba’s oddly humorous social media brand.
But if you listen closely to the lyrics which loosely translate to “Jesus never lost hope”, Nuba offers a strange kind of comfort to his fans, reminding them to stay hopeful during trying times.
“People should follow their passions and work hard to get what they want and get to where they want to go, but education should be prioritised because it is the key and where you usually get a lot of support," said King Nuba.
