MASTER OF SCIENCE IN MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY
The Master of Science in Medical Microbiology is designed to provide sound advanced knowledge in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease for graduates with honours in Medical Microbiology to pursue further training in Medical Microbiology.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Recognition of Prior Learning
- Honours degree in Medical Microbiology or equivalent.
- BSc Honours In Science with a strong background in Medical Microbiology.
- Other Science graduates with a background in Virology can also be considered.
- Science students without honours may enrol but they are required to do BSc honours status examination.
- Science students who have undergone a four-year degree course will also be eligible.
- Medical Technologist who has undertaken the BTech degree from technikons.
- They may be required to sit for a status examination to establish their eligibility.
- This may however be waived in exceptional circumstances on the recommendation of the head and the Higher Degrees Committee.
- Medical doctors with a special interest in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases might later want to specialise in the discipline or may simply want to gain experience in research.

EXIT LEVEL = Master Degree in Medical Microbiology = Minimum of 180 credits from prescribed core courses at Master's level.
Delivery Mode
The programme is offered in a format accessible to full time and part-time students in the form of seminars, self-directed learning, research project in a specified topic under supervision.
