ALUMNI RELATIONS OFFICE WORKSHOP (22 JULY 2025)
The WSU Alumni Relations Office (ARO) and other university stakeholders recently gathered at the institution’s Butterworth campus to build bilateral relationships between internal staff and students at the university.
Through these partnerships, ARO aligns itself with the vision of the university by enhancing engagement and collaborating on effective strategies, all aimed at building long lasting relationships between WSU alumni and the university.
In her opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rushiella Nolundi Songca, pointed out that managing alumni relations was a significant duty that involved keeping up with national and global trends beyond just higher education.
"While fundraising is important, alumni relations should also represent our brand, our objectives and our identity as an African University,” said Songca.
Acting Deputy Director for ARO, Sandiso Mbongo highlighted the strategic role of alumni within the university’s ecosystem.
Mbongo presented a vision for a vibrant and impactful Alumni Relations Office that nurtures lifelong connections, all in line with WSU's goal of becoming a technology-driven African University by 2030.
Senior Director for the WSU Marketing and Communications Directorate (MCD), Yonela Tukwayo reminded the gathering that engaging alumni is more than just about financial support, it includes reunions, recognition, and celebrating achievements.
“Our alumni should be visible, heard and involved in the WSU journey,” said Tukwayo.
