For Public Relations student Bonisiwe Mnxasana, being crowned Miss Thee Unbreakable Stars 2025 was never just about the title; it marked the beginning of a deeper purpose to contribute to the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
At just 21, Mnxasana, who hails from the small village of Mazizini in Matatiele, is using her platform to raise awareness and empower communities.
Her upcoming GBV awareness campaign, set for November 26, 2025, will be hosted at Kwasibi Bethel Community Hall, Ward 4, Matatiele, with the aim of educating rural communities about prevention, support, and reporting mechanisms.
“Many people, not just girls, but also boys and adults, don’t know how to deal with gender-based violence. “Through this campaign, I hope to equip our community with the knowledge and tools to create a safer and more supportive environment for everyone,” she said.
The initiative will be held in partnership with the South African Police Service, social workers, Silukhanya Community Home-Based Care, and local businesses, with more partners expected to join.
Mnxasana’s advocacy extends beyond GBV awareness. Her pad donation drive, supported by the community of Matatiele, addresses the issue of period poverty among young girls.
“My advocacy was inspired by childhood experiences of seeing girls in need of sanitary pads,” said Mnxasana.
She added, “I started by sharing my own pads and later began donating through my business. I’m humbled that the community has rallied behind me, buying sanitary towels for girls in need.”
Her journey in modelling began in 2024 when she entered Miss Matatiele and placed in the top five, an experience that inspired her to continue pursuing her passion.
Balancing her advocacy work with her studies, she says, has been both challenging and fulfilling.
“My PR course at WSU has taught me strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and crisis management, essential skills for successful advocacy,” she adds.
As she continues her journey, Mnxasana has also joined Miss Top Model South Africa 2026.
