MTHATHA ACTING DEPUTY REGISTRAR OBTAINS MASTER’S DEGREE

MTHATHA ACTING DEPUTY REGISTRAR OBTAINS MASTERS DEGREESeventeen years since he obtained his first Bachelor of Commerce degree from Walter Sisulu University, Acting Deputy Registrar at the institution’s Mthatha Campus, Zwelidumile Mditshwa, has completed his Master of Commerce Degree from the institution.

Mditshwa was one of the hundreds of students who graduated at the institution’s autumn graduation which commenced at the Mthatha Campus on 6 May.

The 42-year-old father of three has served in multiple portfolios at WSU, including being a lecturer, faculty accountant, and a faculty officer.

Mditshwa's academic journey, which he has had to balance with the demands of his career, has been marked by perseverance and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

“It has not been easy because being the faculty officer and deputy registrar are very demanding positions. I would use weekends and evenings to study, whilst balancing that with my work. But the support I got from my wife Phumza, my children Usisipho, Ivile and Enzokuhle has kept me going,” said Mditshwa.

The masters graduate has made countless significant contributions to the institution throughout his tenure. He has been at the forefront of multiple initiatives aimed at streamlining and automating business processes within the university.

“I have made some contributions at WSU on the automation of institutional business processes. We have implemented Lecturer i-enabler, academic exclusion, Graduate Identification Automation, and many other projects. All these are complex, and need dedication and great project management,” he remarked.

As he forges ahead with his academic journey, Mditshwa remains focused on his next goal of earning a PhD before the age of 45. He also hopes to serve as an inspiration to other aspiring academics to seize every learning opportunity to advance one’s personal growth.
