WSU ALL BLACKS STAR SHINES FOR THE CHEETAHS

A former WSU All Blacks rugby player made his much-anticipated debut for one of the country’s top rugby franchises following his spectacular performances during last season’s FNB Varsity Shield.

Lanky flanker and 8th-man, Mihlali Mosi, clad in the famous orange and white of the Free State Cheetahs, took to the field against a formidable Griquas outfit recently in what was his professional debut during a Carling Currie Cup clash in Kimberley.

"I am very honoured to be part of the team. I have been working towards this opportunity almost my whole life and I am excited to go out there and give it my all.

The Kariega-born player who burst onto the scene this year was recently named Back Row-Breaker of the first three matches of the Varsity Shield.

"The path I have taken throughout my rugby career has been a build-up to where I am and receiving this opportunity. Moreover, the opportunity of being part of the WSU All Blacks and playing on national television has led to huge exposure and undoubtedly led to such an opportunity," said Mosi.

He described the opportunity as an “honour” following his selection into the Cheetahs side and further stated that he would work even harder with more determination to ensure he leverages as much as possible from this breakthrough.

“My passion for rugby goes as far as my primary school days. I was also privileged enough to go to a great school in my hometown called Muir College Boys High School which had a good rugby programme. My passion for the sport was further nurtured on the fields of that great school,” said Mosi.

He’s growth and talent in the sport has seen Mosi representing Border and the Eastern Province from ages ranging from under 12 to under 20.

Mosi’s journey with the WSU All Blacks ended following last season’s Varsity Shield competition as greener pastures availed themselves in the form of provincial rivals, NMU ‘Madibaz’, a formidable outfit for whom he’ll take the field come next year.
