WSU JOURNALISM ALUMNA’S STORY OF GOD, LOVE AND LIFE

WSU alumna, Ikhona Zwide (29), has transformed her journalism education into a soulful composition with the release of her debut album investigating matters of the heart instead.

Ikhona, who unwittingly forecast her reign in the music industry with the album title “Iyana” (it is raining), saw her first single “Thul’ungakhali”, featuring award-winning gospel star, Betusile Mcinga, reach over five hundred thousand views on YouTube.

“The album is named after my first-born daughter. The name speaks of outpouring rain that brings blessings, healing and hope. It’s also themed after the three most important things in my life: God, love and life,” she said.

The album is a collection of Ikhona’s life experiences in song that have been written over the past decade.

“The album is a seed that had been planted in me for a very long time. I believe now is the time to harvest now that the rain has fallen,” said Ikhona.

Ikhona’s unyielding musical calling started in her formative teen-years with plans to later mould her passion into a career after completing high school.

“Although I did not pursue Journalism as a career, it has helped me a lot in terms of personal branding and marketing,” said Ikhona.

The album is also available for streaming on Spotify and three more previous singles available on YouTube.
