WSU KOMANI CAMPUS WELCOMES NEW STUDENTS

The great hall at the Whittlesea Site outside Queenstown was filled with excited students and parents on Saturday 18 January as the campus’s rector welcomed the students to the institution.

“You are now entering a very important phase in your life where you have to assume responsibility for your own actions. Any new environment has its demands and challenges, and you have now entered a new territory where you have to adjust and flourish in a very short space of time,” said Dotwana.

The students were challenged to set goals for themselves and to be ambitious in order to successfully obtain their qualifications in the prescribed time and to always bear in mind the values they were taught at home.

“It is an indisputable fact that without ambition, there is no vision to aspire to, without goals there is no destination to pursue,” said Queenstown Campus Rector Prof McGlory Speckman.

The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Rob Midgley thanked the students for choosing WSU to pursue their chosen careers and advised students to develop their professional abilities in preparation for the work environment as the degree means nothing if the person does not possess the qualities.

“An individual is employable if he or she has the attributes that go with the qualification. It is not just your matric certificate nor your university degree that opens doors for you, as you’re not the only one who possesses those qualifications. It is your qualities, abilities and whether you are shining bright in that corner in front of that potential employer,” said Prof Midgley.
