WSU ALUMNUS IS UJ’S NEW COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON
The University of Johannesburg has appointed ICT expert and WSU alumna, Xoliswa Kekana, as their new Chairperson of Council.
Kekana is the founder and CEO of ICT-Works and has championed efforts geared towards the transformation of the ICT industry.
Her qualification cabinet is a decorated one as she has bagged qualifications in BSc in Maths and Applied Maths from Walter Sisulu University, then known as the University of Transkei.
She also completed a Master’s Degree in Electronics Engineering from FH Giessen-Friedburg University, Germany, and a Master’s in Business Administration(MBA) from Henley Management College, London.
An electrical engineer by profession, Kekana has more than 30 years of experience in the information, communication and technology sector. Since the start of her career, she has proven herself to be a leader in the country’s ICT sector.
In a 2019 opinion piece published by City Press, Kekana said black women were marginalised in the ICT industry, despite promises of inclusion at the dawn of South Africa’s democracy. She solidified position as a pioneer and game changer in the industry.
The University of Johannesburg spokesperson, Herman Esterhuizen, says Kekana will assume her new role on 1 January 2023, after Mike Teke’s term ends on 31 December.
Walter Sisulu University congratulates Xoliswa Kekana on being appointed as the new Council chairperson for University of Johannesburg.
