WSU CELEBRATES WOMEN'S MONTH

The Walter Sisulu University (WSU) brand ambassadors dazzled at the phenomenal women’s day gala held at Garden Court in Mthatha recently.

The event celebrated women’s empowerment, honouring the achievements of female students who excelled in their respective faculties. The top 30 achievers were selected by the HODs.

Notable figures in attendance included, Dr Tarisai Mpofu, a WSU lecturer and researcher who delivered a very inspiring speech to the students.

“Your achievements are a testament to your hard work and dedication, I am proud of each and every one of you for demonstrating exceptional strength, resilience, and determination,” said Dr Mpofu.

Dr Mpofu concluded by highlighting the significance of investing in the future of young women, stating, “when we uplift a girl child who is already excelling, we are not only investing in her future but in the future of the community and the nation.”

Her words served as a powerful reminder of the impact that empowered women can have on society.

Sinazo Mkhwazi, a WSU brand ambassador said, “This program forms part of the brand ambassador’s strategic engagement which is to amplify student voices, foster inclusive excellence, promote institutional support and pride.”

The students were awarded certificates in recognition of their hard work and dedication, serving as motivation for others to strive for excellence.

Shenice Kili, one of the top 30 achievers said, “Being recognised among the top30 achievers is an incredibly humbling and validating experience, it reinforces my belief that hard work and dedication truly pay off.”

She further highlighted how her journey had taught her that financial and other constraints did not have to be a barrier to academic excellence.  “Be consistent in your efforts and never settle for mediocrity,” she said.

The event served as a powerful reminder that when women are uplifted, communities thrive, and nations progress.
