WSU-NTG SOLUTIONS PARTNERSHIP TO UPGRADE WSU COMPUTERS
In a significant step toward advancing technological infrastructure, the partnership between Walter Sisulu University (WSU) and NTG Solutions has already begun to bear fruit following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement.
This agreement, which focuses on Data Intelligence training for 150 unemployed graduates, has led to a crucial upgrade of the WSU Sasol Library computers.
Faculty of Natural Sciences’ Executive Dean, Prof Albert Thembinkosi Modi, said: “WSU Sasol Library computers were upgraded from 4GB RAM to 12GB RAM, a move aimed at aligning the library’s technology with international standards necessary for the successful implementation of the Data Intelligence course.”
In partnership with global leaders Esri and Leica Geosystems, NTG Solutions adheres to strict compliance standards to provide reliable geospatial precision equipment, technology, and software, and is licensed to train individuals in its use.
“The benefit of this partnership is not limited to the current trainees who will receive an NQF Level 5 Certificate and be linked to public and private employers. The broader and long-term benefit to WSU is that the computers will have faster speed and capacity. More programmes can be installed for advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) operations,” said Modi.
Modi added that, in alignment with the university's aim of being a technology-infused university, access to these computers will be to the entire WSU student community and staff who use the library for different purposes related to learning, teaching, and research.
“We are proud to have the opportunity, through NTG Solutions, to directly contribute to WSU Vision2030. The university's strategic goals: Quality, Impactful Teaching & Learning, Enriching Student Experience, Transformative Community Engagement, Internationalisation, and Partnerships are expected to be achieved by faculties, as we play a key role in shaping student experiences,” said Modi.
Modi added that faculties also have a responsibility to confirm relevance to the community and future employers hence the partnership.
