WSU RESEARCH FELLOW TO PRESENT AT GLOBAL CONFERENCE IN SPAIN

WSU RESEARCH FELLOW TO PRESENT AT GLOBAL CONFERENCE IN SPAINDr Limkani Sincuba, a research fellow at WSU’s Centre for Postgraduate Studies, Teaching, and Development (CPTD) has been invited to speak at the inaugural Global Conference on Educational Development and Social Science (GCEDS24) which will be held in Spain in December 2024.

GCEDS is a global conference that seeks to establish a vibrant and inclusive forum for educators, humanities specialists, and social scientists to share ideas and encourage multidisciplinary collaboration to address current global concerns.

Sincuba, together with her co-author Dr Andrea Buka recently garnered international recognition and subsequently an invitation to the conference following the publication of their manuscript titled “Enhancing Trilingual Pedagogy in Teaching Dramatic Arts: Insights from Teachers”.

“It is deeply gratifying to see my work recognized on an international platform. This acknowledgment reflects not only my efforts but also the collective support and contribution of Walter Sisulu University. It signifies that our university is making a meaningful impact globally. This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collaborative efforts of our academic community,” said Sincuba.

The manuscript examined the topic of trilingualisation in Dramatic Arts, emphasizing the critical role that qualified educators play in enhancing students' learning opportunities and performance in this field.

“As a language teacher, I was inspired by the enthusiasm students showed when using their mother tongue to address critical issues in Dramatic Arts. Allowing students to use their native language, along with other languages including English, made lessons more engaging and meaningful. This approach not only enhanced their understanding but also fostered a greater appreciation for multilingualism in educational settings,” said expressed Sincuba.

The decorated researcher and lecturer’s credentials include an Advanced Certificate, Honours, Masters, and a Doctorate, all majoring in English as a Second Language. She has more than ten years’ experience in secondary school teaching and has held part-time lecturing positions across various WSU faculties.

Ahead of her trip to the conference in Spain, Sincuba is seeking financial support to carry some of the costs not covered by her funder.

She said: “I need to cover the presentation fee and am seeking financial support for this purpose. Any contributions towards this goal would be greatly appreciated. My role at the conference will be to present our published research findings.”

Sincuba extended great appreciation to the WSU community, CPTD and the Directorate for Research and Innovation for their unwavering support throughout her academic Journey.

“The Walter Sisulu University Research Office provided substantial support, paying for the publication and editing fees of the manuscript. The Research Office’s commitment to the university's vision and mission, rooted in the principle of Ubuntu, greatly facilitated the publication process. Their support is a testament to the university's dedication to advancing academic research,” Sincuba expressed.

Sincuba expressed hope that her findings would significantly contribute, on a global scale, to the existing body of knowledge and positively impact the arts industry by highlighting the benefits of trilingual pedagogy to influence educational practices and improve learning outcomes in Dramatic Arts.
