(i) Purpose of the qualification

The primary purpose of this Master of Education degree is to prepare researchers who could contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of education, including knowledge about professional practice at an advanced level. This Master of Education will provide qualifiers with advanced research knowledge in some aspects or sub-fields of education and will accredit candidates who demonstrate the capacity to undertake well-founded and independent inquiry in a field of education, training and development.

(ii) Minimum Admission Requirements

• Bachelor of Education Honours degree OR
• Any other Honours degree with a professional teaching qualification OR
• a Postgraduate Diploma, as long as it meets the HEQSF research project requirement of at least 30 credits and the candidate must have done and passed a Research Methodology module. A person shall not be admitted as a candidate for a Master of Education degree unless he/she has obtained an aggregate of 60% or higher in Bachelor of Education Honours degree, any other Honours degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
