Overview
Walter Sisulu University (WSU) was established on 1 July, 2005 in terms of the Higher Education Act No. 101 of 1997, as amended.
The new university was named in honour of an icon of the South African liberation struggle, the late Walter Max Ulyate Sisulu who was a close comrade of Nelson Mandela.
WSU is uniquely positioned to play a powerful role in the national government’s new focus on rural development in particular.

- Online Registration Cycle for 2023 Academic Year is now open. Both prospective and returning students are invited to commence with their registration activities.
- Post Graduate (Masters and Doctoral), Faculty of Health Sciences and International Students are encouraged to register this week (16 Jan to 20 Jan)
- University Management is aware that most students who are NSFAS beneficiaries will only register as soon as their funding is confirmed by NSFAS, students must not panic they can still register until 4th February 2023
