Dr Obrain Tinashe Murire Snr. Lecturer
I am an academic in Computing and Information Technology with over 15 years of combined industry and academic experience. Before joining the university sector, I worked in the telecommunications industry, gaining valuable experience applying technology to real-world challenges that continue to inform my teaching and research. I have since lectured at several South African universities, specialising in Networking, Distributed Systems, and Programming. I am pursuing a PhD in Computer Science with Stellenbosch University, focusing on climate change misinformation and the role of digital technologies in mitigating its impact. This research reflects my broader interest in how emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), can be harnessed to address societal challenges and improve educational outcomes. Guided by a constructivist philosophy, I view myself as a facilitator of learning who nurtures curiosity, independence, and critical thinking. I employ student-centred and experiential teaching approaches that promote engagement, collaboration, and reflection. My work embraces the evolving technological landscape, preparing students to become adaptable, ethically grounded, and globally competitive digital citizens. Through my teaching, research, and mentorship, I aim to develop graduates who are innovative, socially responsible, and capable of driving sustainable technological and social progress.
