The Faculty of Education is the largest faculty at Walter Sisulu, home to more than 8 000 students. The Faculty is primarily located at the Komani Campus, with an additional delivery site at the Mthatha Campus. It comprises six academic departments offering a total of seventeen programmes that range from Diploma qualifications to Doctoral degrees in Education.

Our undergraduate programmes are designed to prepare teachers for key and critical learning areas within the schooling system. These include Science, Mathematics, Technical and Vocational subjects, Creative Arts, Humanities, Business and Management, and Adult Education, among others. These specialisations are offered across the various phases of schooling, namely the Foundation Phase, Senior Phase, Further Education and Training Phase, and Adult Education. In addition, our postgraduate programmes provide opportunities for growth and professional development for practising teachers and education professionals who wish to advance their knowledge, leadership capacity, and research expertise.

Through these programmes, the Faculty responds to societal needs in ways that are ethical, scholarly, sustainable, technology-infused, and entrepreneurial. Our goal is to prepare future-ready graduates, teachers, subject advisors, and educational leaders and managers of the highest calibre who can contribute meaningfully to the school system in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, and globally.
