It is a great pleasure that I welcome you to the Department of Management Accounting and Finance in the academic year 2025. The Department of Management Accounting and Finance is honoured that you entrusted Walter Sisulu University and our department as the partner that will help you achieve your goals. As the Head of the Department, I wish to congratulate you on being admitted as one of the students whose Accounting careers can start with our department. Indeed, our department is the hub of the Accountancy and Information Systems professions and boasts dedicated staff personnel with a wealth of experience in the various pillars of the accounting profession.
The department of Management Accounting and Finance is based at the Zamukulungisa Campus (formerly Transkei College) and offers two diplomas and one Advanced Diploma Qualification in the academic year 2025. Our qualifications are in the following fields: Financial Accounting, Financial Information Systems and Management Accounting. A skilled pool of qualified staff members delivers the teaching & learning mandate of the department. The department has a strong research and community engagement capacity. Our current research staff has received numerous awards. The research niche area is Sustainability Accounting and Management and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. As a department, we have been approved to rollout the professional qualification Accounting Technicians South Africa (ATSA). The current offerings enable our graduates to occupy internal auditing technicians positions, cost accounting technicians, and financial accounting and information systems technicians up to the managerial level. As an accounting student in one of our programmes, you will automatically be a member of the Accounting Society (SAS), which is a society that seeks to look after the welfare of our students. This is the society that will help you orientate and integrate you within the accounting community. We pride ourselves on being a diversified department which holds respect for our students coming from a multicultural society. In collaboration with the Directorate of Learning and Teaching (DLT), our students are exposed to writing and reading, tutoring sessions are organised to empower students, and supplementary instruction is provided through Peer Assisted Learning Leaders (PALLS).
