Mrs. Sindisiwe Mdindela-Majova

The Human Resource Department at Walter Sisulu comprises a diverse and dynamic community of staff and students who demonstrate strong potential to become future leaders in the human resource profession. The department delivers a responsive and forward-looking curriculum, developed in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP), the Human Resource University Forum, curriculum transformation specialists, and advisory committees. All programmes are aligned with professional standards and maintain accreditation with SABPP, ensuring relevance and quality in a rapidly evolving world of work.

The department is supported by an active Advisory Board consisting of experienced practitioners in industrial psychology, human resources, and labour law. The Board engages regularly with the department, providing strategic insight into workplace trends and contributing to the continuous alignment of qualifications with industry requirements. Both staff and students maintain professional affiliations with bodies such as SABPP, the Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology of South Africa, and Toastmasters International, strengthening professional development and industry readiness.

Strategic partnerships remain central to the department’s approach to academic excellence and graduate employability. The department maintains collaborative relationships with institutions across South Africa and the African continent, including Nelson Mandela University, the University of Fort Hare, the University of Johannesburg, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, the Central University of Technology, and the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. These partnerships support knowledge exchange, benchmarking, and ongoing programme enhancement.

The department continues to demonstrate a strong track record of academic and professional excellence, with graduates performing competitively at national level and programmes recognised for maintaining high standards in human resource education. Academic staff are actively engaged in research that addresses contemporary human capital challenges, contributing to both local and global discourse. The department hosts a growing cohort of doctoral researchers and includes an NRF-rated C2 professor, reflecting its commitment to research excellence.

In line with global academic and industry trends, the department is strengthening international collaborations to expand opportunities for student and staff exchange. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing global exposure, fostering cross-cultural competencies, and ensuring that graduates of Walter Sisulu are equipped to operate effectively in both local and international environments.
