WSU GOING EXTRA MILE TO EQUIP ITS STUDENTPRENEURS WITH MORE SKILLS

Walter Sisulu University’s (WSU) Department of Student Affairs has undertaken an initiative to equip eight students with presenting skills in preparation for the upcoming EDHE Studentpreneurs Indaba 2024 regional rounds.

Eight opportunistic WSU students are set to go against their three sister universities in a battle of business ideas and innovation.

The presenting skills training  is set to be held in Johannesburg in September through the University of the Witwatersrand where highly successful business people are expected to be transferring their entrepreneurship skills to the inspiring students.

WSU EDHE Entrepreneurship Intervarsity Coordinator, Khanyisile Blaai said the Studentpreneurs Indaba is a vital gathering of young minds, innovators, and entrepreneurs. It provides a platform for students to share ideas and experiences.

She said this initiative is for students to learn from successful entrepreneurs and industry experts and connect with like-minded individuals and potential collaborators.

“Showcasing their innovative projects and products give access to resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities, with an aim to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst studentpreneurs,” Blaai said.

She added that the Indaba training is a national programme, which came at the right time for the WSU participants to gain more knowledge through networking and engaging with industry experts as they prepare for the regional rounds.

“The department is not only focusing on getting students to compete but is cultivating an entrepreneurial mind-set. However, if there are opportunities for students to pitch their business ideas, we do support them for their growth,” she added.

WSU is committed in supporting its portable students despite winning or not and will continue to expose them through various business mentorship programmes.
